Populist Performances II / CHAINED TO A STATUE OF PIM FORTUYN
(Rotterdam, 2007; Amsterdam: Nederlands Triptiek (Dutch triptych) at Galerie Masters, 2007)

Performance executed by the artist, in which he had himself chained to a statue of Pim Fortuyn, located in the center of Rotterdam, commemorating the murdered politician. The performance treated Pim Fortuyn as a nostalgic benchmark within contemporary politics, and the regressive character that it has acquired in its perspective on, and in the view of, the sacrosanct “Voter.” The action of chaining and “being chained” expressed the longing for an ideal, but also the inability to accept that this already irrevocably belongs to the past.
