Beyond Allegories

Beyond Allegories was a nine-hour debate in the city council of Amsterdam, during which artists and politicians discussed proposals on the role of art within governance, political mobilization and action.

The following collectively developed resolutions were presented in the council: Resolution #1: Plea for a Free Zone by Salima Belhaj (D66) and Maartje Remmers (theater collective Wunderbaum); Resolution #2: Towards an Extra-Parliamentary Democracy! by Mariko Peters (GroenLinks), Daniel van der Velden and Vinca Kruk (design collective Metahaven) and artist Jonas Staal; Resolution #3: Political Representation Beyond Citizenship by Yoonis Osman Nuur (refugee collective We Are Here) and artist Ahmet Öğüt; Resolution #4: Mapping the Deep State by Dirk Poot (Pirate Party) and Ghalia Elsrakbi and Lauren Alexander (design collective Foundland); Resolution #5: The Creative City: A Blessing for the Administration, A Curse for the Arts by Carolien Gehrels (Labor Party) and artist Hans van Houwelingen; and Resolution #6: Democratising the Arts by Ron Meyer (Socialist Party) and artist Matthijs de Bruijne.
